Dr. Tara Ivanochko appointed Associate Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning

Appointment Date

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Tara Ivanochko has been appointed as Associate Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning, for a two-year term effective May 1, 2026.

Dr. Ivanochko joined UBC in 2009 as an Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Science. She was appointed Director of Environmental Science in 2010 and Associate Head, Undergraduate Affairs, in 2017. She is currently a Professor of Teaching and served as Academic Director of the UBC Sustainability Hub from October 2020 to April 2026.

Dr. Ivanochko has advanced sustainability education at UBC through a range of leadership roles. She contributed to the development of UBC’s 20-year Sustainability Strategy, co-led the 2022–2027 UBC Sustainability Hub strategic planning process, and recently completed a comprehensive review and renewal of the Environmental Science curriculum. She also co-developed the Certificate in Climate Studies and Action in collaboration with colleagues in the Faculty of Arts.

This new role will support activities in the teaching and learning portfolio. As Associate Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning, Dr. Ivanochko will help advance actions associated with the refreshed UBC strategic plan, support pedagogical and curriculum initiatives for faculty and continue to oversee the Sustainability Hub activities.

“There is a deep connection between experiential learning, sustainability education and excellence in teaching and learning,” says Dr. Ivanochko. “As the refreshed UBC strategic priorities focus once again on teaching and learning, I am excited by this opportunity to further support interdisciplinary and transformative education at UBC."

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Ivanochko in her new role as Associate Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning.
