Angelique Pilon appointed Acting Senior Director, UBC Sustainability Hub

October 01, 2024

I am pleased to announce that Angelique Pilon has been appointed as the Acting Senior Director for the Sustainability Hub for a one-year term, effective October 1, 2024.

Angelique has been at UBC since 2010, with her most recent role as the Director, Urban Innovation Research, in the Sustainability Hub since 2017. In this role, she’s been actively involved in a number of strategic projects including the research and knowledge mobilization program for Brock Commons Tallwood House which led to the changes in mass timber building policy, and the development of the annual Campus as a Living Lab Fund Competition at both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. Angelique holds a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Michigan, and has professional experience in firms in both Canada and the United States. She brings a design approach to the creation and support of new sustainability initiatives in higher education.

The Sustainability Hub, part of the Provost & Vice-President, Academic, portfolio at the UBC Vancouver campus, catalyzes partnerships and initiatives across UBC and beyond campus to strengthen sustainability and climate action in teaching, learning, and research. Hub programs support faculty to enhance curriculum, offer experiential learning for students on and off-campus, and provide research opportunities to support innovation through UBC’s Campus as a Living Lab. The Hub works in collaboration with other academic and operational groups across campus to advance strategic priorities including the 20-year Sustainability Strategy, the Sustainability Academic Strategy and the Climate Emergency Task Force recommendations, and to raise UBC’s profile as a leader in sustainability and climate action.

I would like to thank Linda Nowlan for her leadership of the Sustainability Hub since 2020 – her unwavering commitment to sustainability, climate justice and the UBC community have been invaluable. On behalf of the Provost’s leadership team, I wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

Congratulations, Angelique, on this appointment. We in the Provost’s office look forward to working with you and the team in the Sustainability Hub in progressing the university’s commitments in advancing sustainability and climate action across UBC's academic activities, and in partnership with communities, policymakers, and practitioners.
