Director of the First Nations House of Learning and Senior Advisor to the President on Aboriginal Affairs

April 14, 2014

Dr. Linc Kesler

Dr. Linc Kesler has accepted the offer to be reappointed for a second term in the joint roles of Director of the First Nations House of Learning and the Senior Advisor to the President on Aboriginal Affairs.

A President’s Advisory Committee was tasked with considering the reappointment, and making a recommendation to President Toope. The committee consulted widely, both internally and externally at both campuses, and was delighted to receive strong support for extending Dr. Kesler’s term for another five years, until December 31. 2018. The process also highlighted the need to further articulate the relationship of the Senior Advisor’s role with respect to the engagement with UBC Okanagan and  for providing additional resources to the incumbent and the First Nations House of Learning team.

Having carefully considered the feedback received from the community, the committee met with Dr. Kesler to hear his reflections on his past five years in the office and learn of his vision and hopes for the next term.  Members then made a unanimous recommendation to President Toope to extend Dr. Kesler’s appointment for another term, and recommended ways to support him to ensure his continued success. President Toope fully concurred with the committee’s recommendations.

The Provost thanked all those who took the time to share their feedback in this process, also thanked the members of the advisory committee for their wisdom, thoughtfulness, and commitment of time in serving on this committee.
