A message from Andrew J. Szeri, Provost and Vice-President Academic, UBC Vancouver, Marcia Buchholz, Vice-President, Human Resources, and Ainsley Carry, Vice-President, Students

We are pleased to announce the Board of Governors has approved the reappointment of Dr. Sara-Jane Finlay as Associate Vice-President (AVP), Equity & Inclusion for an ongoing term.

The reappointment process was guided by an Advisory Committee comprising faculty, staff and student representatives. The committee reviewed feedback from a UBC community consultation, and considered a recent external review of the Equity & Inclusion Office (EIO).

Dr. Finlay was initially appointed AVP, Equity & Inclusion for a five-year term in March 2015. The Equity & Inclusion Office partners with units across UBC to embed equity, diversity, and inclusion into structure, policies, and processes. Under Dr. Finlay's leadership, the EIO has stewarded institution-wide strategic priorities such as the Employment Systems Review and the Employment Equity Plan, the Inclusion Action Plan, the Canada Research Chair Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan and the Student Diversity Initiative. Dr. Finlay also played a key role in the development of Policy SC17: Sexual Assault and Other Sexual Misconduct and Policy SC18: Retaliation. She is a founding member of the Inclusion Network of Canadian Research Universities (INCRU) and the Past President of the College and University Work-Life-Family Association.

We appreciate Dr. Finlay's deep commitment to build a community in which equity and inclusion are embedded in all areas of academic, work and campus life at UBC. Please join us in congratulating her on her reappointment.
