Elisa Baniassad appointed CTLT Deputy Academic Director

The UBC Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Elisa Baniassad as the new Deputy Academic Director, effective July 1, 2022. 

Elisa is an Associate Professor of Teaching in the department of Computer Science, in the Faculty of Science. She is involved in a range of projects related to teaching, learning, and technology. Recently, her work has involved a focus on issues of belonging in teams (in close collaboration with the CTLT, and supported by TLEF and SoTL Seed funds), and on alternative grading practices, including mastery learning and ungrading. This past year, Elisa was honored as an OER Champion for her provision of free online materials for her Software Engineering stream courses. She has also been active in equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts at an institutional level, including her work on the Status of Women committee with the Faculty Association, and her prior work with the Gender Institute and Reconciliation Action Plan when she was on faculty at the Australian National University.  

As Deputy Academic Director, Elisa will provide strategic academic leadership to support CTLT’s current projects and emerging priorities. She will also take on the role of Director of the Institute for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning as well as serve as Institutional Co-Lead for the Centre for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) at UBC.
