Dr. Jaclyn Stewart appointed CTLT Deputy Academic Director

The UBC Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jaclyn (Jackie) Stewart as the new Deputy Academic Director. Dr. Stewart begins her three-year term on July 1, 2019.

As a Senior Instructor in the Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science, Jackie brings to CTLT a breadth of teaching experience in chemistry and science communication. She has a long-standing relationship with CTLT, having benefited from its professional development offerings and collaborations with staff on Scholarship of Teaching and Learning projects to improve learning through evidence-based practices. In her 15 years of teaching at UBC, Jackie has contributed to numerous teaching and learning initiatives including transforming chemistry laboratory and lecture courses as the Chemistry departmental Director for the Carl Wieman Science Education Initiative (2001-2007) and developing Open Educational Resources in computational chemistry and organic chemistry. Jackie also recently joined the inaugural cohort of the Equity and Inclusion Scholars Program, working to increase equity in active learning first-year science courses. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (Honours) and a Master of Science in Wood Science from UBC, and a PhD in Educational Psychology from SFU.

As Deputy Academic Director, Jackie will provide strategic academic leadership to support CTLT’s current projects and emerging priorities, and will also envision and lead significant initiatives to support UBC’s teaching and learning mandate.
