Through investments in technology, services, and people, UBC is enhancing AI services and infrastructure to support faculty members in their academic work. As of April 1, 2026, the Learning Technology Innovation Centre (LTIC) is launching new services to enable instructors to explore and apply AI technologies to transform teaching, while preparing students for success after graduation.
To ensure that all faculty, regardless of technical background, can employ AI in their academic work, LTIC’s incubator provides support the full process, from ideation through build to deployment. LTIC also works with teams to develop solutions that meet data privacy and security requirements where needed.
These new services are being made possible through an investment in shared academic infrastructure and deliver on an action identified for the first year of implementation of UBC’s Strategic Directions 2025-2030. Towards the Excel in the Development and Applications of Emerging Technologies direction, LTIC and Advanced Research Computing (ARC), part of the VPRI portfolio are refreshing and expanding UBC’s AI infrastructure.
LTIC’s support for AI-enabled teaching is made possible by strategic UBC investments in on-premises and cloud infrastructure that enables private and secure work with large language models (LLMs), with a strong focus on domestic data residency for sensitive and high-risk data. Over the coming year, ARC will continue renewing and enhancing UBC’s research AI infrastructure to offer more capabilities. Visit the Advanced Research Computing website for more details.
