Effective September 1, 2026, the UBC Vancouver Senate policy on Content and Distribution of Course Syllabi has two new required content areas: a statement on academic integrity, and a statement on the permitted use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in student-submitted work.
New syllabus statements
Instructors' syllabi for the 2026/27 academic year should provide clarity, direction and expectations to students around academic integrity and the use of GenAI tools. Syllabus statements should support students in their understanding of concepts and tools, provide detailed guidance adapted to the course and to assessments, and support awareness of university regulations and support resources available to students.
As of September 1, 2026, Senate Policy V-130 requires syllabi to include:
- An academic integrity statement that informs the students of expectations in the course, including a link to the Academic Calendar statement on Academic Misconduct; and
- A generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) statement that clarifies how the use of GenAI is or is not permitted in student-submitted work.
