Appointment of Chief Institutional Research Officer, Dr. Stephanie McKeown
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Stephanie McKeown is the newly appointed Chief Institutional Research Officer (CIRO) for the University of British Columbia – a role that spans both the Okanagan and Vancouver campuses.
The CIRO leads the university-wide effort to gather, analyze and disseminate decision-making information to the institution's academic and operational leadership. The CIRO will provide strategic leadership and guidance across the UBC system on matters of institutional research, and will work closely and collaboratively with senior administrators in the Faculties and administrative units.
Leveraging the strengths of the Offices of Planning and Institutional Research (PAIR) on both campuses and the Student Experience Evaluation and Research (SEER) unit, Dr. McKeown will provide leadership and direction to enhance the coordination of institutional data and analysis across the UBC system, providing optimal support to our Faculties, the UBC Executive and to our external partners.
Dr. McKeown has been working in Institutional Research for 25 years. She has been with UBC Okanagan since 2007, and has been the Director of OPAIR (Okanagan) since 2010. She is currently the Vice-President of the Canadian Institutional Research and Planning Association, and has been a member of the Research Committee for the B.C. Council on Admissions and Transfer since 2013. Dr. McKeown has also previously served as Chair of the B.C. Institutional Researchers and Planners Association, and President of the Pacific Northwest Association for Institutional Researchers and Planners.
Dr. McKeown holds a PhD and MA in Measurement, Evaluation and Research Methodology from UBC’s Faculty of Education.
