Reappointment of Senior Advisor to the Provost on Women Faculty

January 22, 2018

Following consultation with various UBC stakeholders, I am delighted to announce the reappointment of Dr. Jennifer Love as Senior Advisor to the Provost on Women Faculty for a two-year term beginning July 1, 2018.

This position supports institutional efforts to enhance UBC’s scholarly and leadership environment and strengthen opportunities for women faculty at UBC Vancouver. Dr. Love’s commitment to promoting equity, providing advice and serving as a resource to UBC’s academic leadership on matters of significance to women faculty, has been invaluable.

During her first term, Dr. Love established a ‘Faculty Data Dashboard’, in collaboration with Human Resources and Planning and Institutional Research (PAIR). The dashboard allows for easy tracking of data related to faculty positions at each level, and allows us to look for discrepancies between male and female faculty members.

As a member of the Steering Committee on Sexual Assault, Dr. Love contributed to the development of Policy #131 on Sexual Assault and Other Sexual Misconduct, and outlined the roles of the new Director of Investigations and the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office.

Dr. Love’s focus in her next term will include chairing a new pay equity committee, which will analyze and propose measures for the resolution of gender-related pay inequity within UBC’s faculty ranks. She will also focus on expanding the capabilities of the ‘Faculty Data Dashboard’, and will work with Deans’ offices to analyze the data. Dr. Love is currently working with the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic and the Equity and Inclusion Office on the Canada Research Chairs’ Action Plan, and will work with the Faculty Association to develop mentoring and sponsorship programming for women faculty.
