External Review of the Equity & Inclusion Office

August 14, 2019

An external review of the Equity & Inclusion Office is being carried out to assist the university as it considers the reappointment of Dr. Sara-Jane Finlay, whose current term as Associate Vice-President, Equity & Inclusion, comes to an end on March 15, 2020. The terms of reference for the review can be found here

The review team will visit the Vancouver campus, with a virtual connection to the Okanagan campus, on October 9-11, 2019. The members of the review team are:

  • Dr. Arig al Shaibah, Associate Vice-President, Equity and Inclusion, McMaster University
  • Dr. Denise O’Neil Green, Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion, Ryerson University
  • Dr. Oscar Dubón Jr., Vice Chancellor, Equity & Inclusion, UC Berkeley.

The review team will meet in Vancouver with faculty members, students, staff, senior administrators and other individuals or groups that may interact with Equity & Inclusion at UBC.

Before the reviewers’ arrival, they will receive documentation on all aspects of the unit’s operation, including the nature and quality of its services to students, faculty and staff, its facilities and resources, its administrative structure and organization, and its internal and external linkages.

You are invited to provide written comments relevant to the matters under review – along with your name and affiliation to UBC – to Dr. Herbert Rosengarten, the review coordinator, at hjr@exchange.ubc.ca by Monday, October 7, 2019

Your comments will be held in strict confidence and will be forwarded to the members of the review team. The reviewers’ findings will be shared with me, and will be of value to the senior administration, the unit itself and the university community as a whole.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Andrew Szeri, Provost and Vice-President, Academic
