Provost’s Distinguished Lecture Series on Race and Leadership: March 19 with Arig al Shaibah

February 10, 2020

You are invited to a public lecture with Dr. Arig al Shaibah, Associate Vice-President, Equity and Inclusion, at McMaster University, on March 19, as part of the Provost’s Distinguished Lecture Series on Race and Leadership.

About the event

Most, if not all, universities across Canada have articulated their value for and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). However, across the university sector, institutions have continued to be challenged to mobilize campus-wide efforts to enact and embody their EDI values and commitments.

The presenter, who self-identifies as a racialized woman administrator, academic, and practitioner, will summarize some of the challenges and opportunities in advancing EDI in the academy, referring to relevant scholarship and augmenting that knowledge with lessons learned from lived experiences and leadership practices.

Participants will be invited to reflect on and discuss the inclusive excellence imperative and the paradigm shift for which it calls, as well as the requisite institutional EDI change management approaches and individual inclusive leadership qualities needed to action EDI priorities towards aspirational inclusive excellence goals.
