UBC merges Faculties of Education and creates Okanagan School of Education

June 19, 2018

On Thursday, June 15, the Board of Governors approved the merging of the Vancouver and Okanagan Faculties of Education, and the creation of a new Okanagan School of Education, effective July 1, 2018.

The creation of a single Faculty will help optimize resources and create stronger connections between faculty and staff across our two campuses, as well as increase opportunities for collaboration. It will also enable us to build on our excellence in research and program delivery within the Faculty of Education, and strengthen our ability to serve the educational and professional development needs of our students and alumni. This will include the potential for teacher candidates to have greater access to practicum locations across B.C.

The merger will result in the creation of the Okanagan School of Education, which will enhance UBC’s research and academic opportunities for educators in that region and beyond.

The decision to merge the Vancouver and Okanagan Faculties followed extensive consultation across both campuses, and approval by both the Vancouver and Okanagan Senates in April. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the faculty, staff, students and partners who contributed to this process.
