UBC outlines spending priorities in 2019/20 budget

April 24, 2019

A message from Andrew Szeri, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver, and Peter Smailes, Vice-President, Finance and Operations

We are pleased to announce that the Board of Governors has approved the UBC Budget for the 2019/20 fiscal year.

The UBC Budget outlines the university’s spending priorities for the year ahead, in order to advance our strategic plan: Shaping UBC’s Next Century.

Key investment areas include recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff, and teaching, learning and research infrastructure. Under those broad themes, the university will be investing in areas such as student mental health, student financial aid, research support, and local and global engagement.

We are grateful to the Board for their support of UBC’s academic and operational priorities, and for their endorsement of our recommendations as set out in the budget report.

We are also appreciative of the time and effort on the part of the Provost and Finance budget teams on both campuses, together with the broader leadership community, to compile the UBC Budget. Thank you to all those who took part in the consultation.
