Update: UBC Health

August 05, 2016

Over the last year I have been working with the Deans and School Directors in health disciplines to advance the goals of UBC Health, and to support UBC’s ambitious goals to promote research, education and clinical practice in the health domain through greater collaboration across our myriad related units. I am absolutely committed to these goals, which are a necessary component of UBC’s overarching ambition to move from ‘excellence to eminence.’

As I work to restructure the Office of UBC Health, I plan to take a more active role in this file, through chairing the monthly meetings of the UBC Health Executive and by ensuring that the Office of UBC Health has the resources that it needs.  I have made the decision to discontinue the position of Vice-Provost Health as of September 1. This decision has not been taken lightly;  it reflects the changing nature of the office and the role that Dr. Gavin Stuart is playing in providing strategic leadership to the evolving BC Academic Health Sciences Network—an exciting and challenging initiative which shares many of the goals of UBC Health.

I am deeply appreciative of the significant contribution Gavin has made as Vice-Provost Health and I look forward to working collaboratively with him in his ongoing role in the BC Academic Health Sciences Network.

Dr. Louise Nasmith will continue in her role as Associate-Provost Health reporting directly to the Provost and will remain responsible for the activities and staff within the Office of UBC Health. I am sure that the excellent contributions of the office to inter-professional health education, patient engagement and other initiatives will continue with Louise’s guidance.
