External review of UBC Library

February 14, 2022

External reviews are conducted periodically to ensure that UBC’s Faculties and Administrative Units are supporting the university’s academic mission. In March, UBC Library is undergoing an external review as part of this process.

The external review allows the opportunity for students, faculty and staff to submit comments, and includes interviews with key stakeholders, conducted on site by visiting reviewers. You can access the terms of reference here.

The reviewers will visit UBC Library at UBC Vancouver on March 7-9, 2022. They are:

  • Dr. C. Colleen Cook, Trenholme Dean of Libraries, McGill University
  • Dr. Lorraine Haricombe, Vice-Provost and Director of the University of Texas Libraries, University of Texas at Austin
  • Martha Whitehead, Vice-President for the Harvard Library and University Librarian, Harvard University

The reviewers will meet with a broad cross section of UBC Library collaborators: librarians, senior administrators, faculty members, staff, students, practitioners, government agencies, members of professional associations, and other appropriate individuals and groups that interact with UBC Library.

Faculty and staff are invited to provide written comments relevant to the matters under review to Dr. Herbert Rosengarten, the review coordinator, at hjr@exchange.ubc.ca, by March 3, 2022. Please include your name and affiliation to UBC.

Your comments will be held in strict confidence and will be forwarded to the reviewers. Their findings will be of value to the senior administration, the University Librarian, and the university community as a whole.

Thank you in advance for engaging in this process.
