An external review of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is being carried out to assist the university as it considers the reappointment of Dean Susan Porter, whose current term comes to an end on 30 November, 2018. The terms of reference for the review can be found here.

A review team will visit UBC Vancouver between March 19 and 21, 2018. The members of the review team are:

  • Dr. Brenda Brouwer, Vice-Provost and Dean, School of Graduate Studies, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario;
  • Dr. Wade Parkhouse, Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President Academic, Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, BC;
  • Dr. Janet A. Weiss, Professor of Business and Public Policy at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, and former Dean of the Rackham Graduate School, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The review team will meet with faculty members, students, staff, senior administrators, and other individuals or groups that may interact with the Faculty.

Prior to their visit, the review team will receive documentation on all aspects of the Faculty’s operations, including the nature and quality of its services to students and faculty, its facilities and resources, its administrative structure and organization, and its internal and external linkages.

You are invited to provide relevant written comments – along with your name and affiliation to UBC – to Dr. Herbert Rosengarten, the review coordinator, at herbert.rosengarten@ubc.ca by Thursday, March 15, 2018.  All comments will be held in strict confidence, and will be forwarded to the members of the review team. The reviewers’ findings will be of value to the senior administration, Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, and the university community as a whole.

All are strongly encouraged to participate in this important process – your input is greatly appreciated.
