External Review of the UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems

June 18, 2018

An external review of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems is being carried out to assist the University as it considers the reappointment of Dean Rickey Yada, whose current term comes to an end on  September 30, 2019. The terms of reference for the review can be found here.

A review team will visit UBC Vancouver on October 15, 16, and 17, 2018.  The members of the review team are:

  • Dr. Anja Geitmann, Dean & Associate Vice Principal, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, McGill University;
  • Dr. Stanford Blade, Dean, Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences, the University of Alberta;
  • Dr. Kathryn J. Boor, Dean, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Cornell University.

The review team will meet with faculty members, staff, students, senior administrators, and other individuals and groups that may interact with the Faculty.  Before the reviewers’ arrival on campus, they will receive documentation on all aspects of the Faculty’s operation, including the quality of its teaching and research, its facilities and resources, its administrative structure and organization, and its internal and external linkages.

All faculty, staff, and students are invited to provide relevant written comments – along with your name and affiliation to UBC – to Dr. Herbert Rosengarten, the review coordinator, at herbert.rosengarten@ubc.ca by Thursday, October 11, 2018.  All comments will be held in strict confidence, and will be forwarded to the members of the review team.  The reviewers’ findings, in the form of a report to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, will be of value to the senior administration, the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, and the University community as a whole.

All are strongly encouraged to participate in this important process – your input is greatly appreciated.
