External reviews are conducted periodically to ensure that UBC’s Faculties and administrative units are supporting the university’s academic mission. In April, the Faculty of Science will undergo an external review as part of this process.
The external review allows the opportunity for faculty and staff to submit comments, and includes interviews with key stakeholders conducted by visiting reviewers. You can access the terms of reference here.
The reviewers will meet with members of the Faculty of Science at UBC Vancouver on April 26-28, 2023. They are:
- Dr. Lisa Graumlich, Professor and Dean Emerita, College of the Environment, University of Washington
- Dr. Paul Chaikin, Professor, Department of Physics, College of Arts and Science, New York University
- Dr. Mark Giesbrecht, Dean, Faculty of Mathematics, University of Waterloo
The review team will meet with senior administrators, faculty members, support staff, students, members of professional associations, and other appropriate individuals and groups that interact with the Faculty of Science and the Office of the Dean.
UBC faculty and staff are also invited to provide written comments relevant to the matters under review to Dr. Herbert Rosengarten, the review coordinator, at hjr@exchange.ubc.ca, by Sunday, April 23, 2023. Please include your name and affiliation to UBC.
Your comments will be held in strict confidence and will be forwarded to the reviewers. Their findings will be of value to the senior administration, the Faculty of Science, and the University community as a whole.
Thank you in advance for engaging in this process.
