Periodic external review of the Faculty of Forestry

October 9, 2025

External reviews are conducted periodically to ensure that UBC’s Faculties and administrative units are supporting the university’s academic mission. In November 2025, the Faculty of Forestry will undergo an external review as part of this process.

The external review allows the opportunity for faculty and staff to submit comments and includes interviews with key stakeholders conducted by visiting reviewers. You can access the terms of reference here.

The reviewers will visit the Faculty of Forestry at UBC Vancouver on November 3-5, 2025. They are:

  • Dr. Nancy Gélinas, Doyenne, Faculté de Foresterie, de Géographie et de Géomatique, Université Laval;
  • Dr. Dan Brown, Professor and Director, School of Environmental and Forest Sciences, University of Washington;
  • Dr. Sean Thomas, Professor and Associate Dean, Research, Institute of Forestry & Conservation, John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design, University of Toronto

The review team will meet with senior administrators, faculty members, staff, students, members of professional associations, and other individuals and groups that interact with the Faculty and the Office of the Dean. Their findings will be of value to the senior administration, the Faculty of Forestry, and the university community as a whole.

UBC faculty and staff are invited to provide written comments relevant to the matters under review to Dr. Herbert Rosengarten, the review coordinator, at hjr@exchange.ubc.ca, by Friday, October 31, 2025. Please include your name and affiliation to UBC. Your comments will be held in strict confidence and will be forwarded to the reviewers.

Thank you in advance for engaging in this process.

Gage Averill
Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver
