Inviting early career academics to Maximizing Impact 2024/25

August 19, 2024

The Offices of the Provosts and the Equity & Inclusion Office are launching the fifth cohort of the Maximizing Impact mentorship and coaching program. We invite all non-tenured faculty at the level of Assistant Professor in the educational leadership and research streams who are within their first three years at UBC to apply to be a part of this year’s cohort.

Maximizing Impact is an eight-month cohort-based program now entering its fifth year. This year’s cohort will include 35 faculty members from both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. This unique and intentionally designed program provides mentorship and coaching to engage early-career academics and educational leaders in maximizing the impact of their research, teaching, and leadership.

The program focuses on helping participants learn more about how the university operates, their role in faculty positions, and advancing growth, equity, and change. Maximizing Impact is led by Dr. Lisa W. Loutzenheiser, an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education. Lisa is a certified Organizational and licensed International Coaching Federation coach with a long commitment to and interest in mentorship for early career academics, particularly those from historically, persistently, or systemically marginalized backgrounds.

Learn more about the program details and apply. Applications close September 9, 2024. The program includes:

  1. Connect and network with fellow early-career academics from both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses who are navigating similar challenges and opportunities and build a network that supports your work and vision.
  2. Benefit from one-on-one and/or group coaching with certified and experienced UBC Leadership Coaches to navigate the complexities associated with the role, explore strengths, uncover the broader system, and set and achieve professional and personal goals.
  3. An in-person institute/orientation (at the suggestion of the last cohort) will be held on Saturday, September 21, at UBC Vancouver.
  4. Monthly workshops, including a selection of the following:
    • Finding Balance
    • Expanding Mentorship
    • Reframing Imposter Syndrome
