We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Claudia Ruitenberg as the new academic director of UBC Vantage College. Dr. Ruitenberg begins her role May 1, 2017 with a 3-year appointment effective July 1. Claudia is currently Associate Professor and Graduate Advisor in the Department of Educational Studies. In addition to her undergraduate and graduate teaching experience and her research in philosophy of education, she brings experience in curriculum development and student advising. Claudia came to Canada as an international student and this personal experience informs her keen interest in international education. The Vantage One program offers a full 11-month first year program in Arts, Science, Engineering, and Management. Vantage One students take first year UBC courses with embedded academic English and perform well as they transition into the second year of their UBC degree programs. Currently in its third year, the college has more than 350 students from over 25 countries around the world.
