Extension of appointment of Dr. Kate Ross, Associate Vice-President, Enrolment Services and Registrar

Appointment Date

We are pleased to announce that the Board of Governors has approved the extension of appointment of Dr. Kate Ross as Associate Vice-President, Enrolment Services and Registrar for a second five-year term.

Under Dr. Ross’ leadership, Enrolment Services has seen a renewal in its mission and goals, aligning them with the university’s strategic plan, strengthening staff commitment to providing exceptional enrolment and registrarial services, and fostering a culture of collaboration and respect.

Dr. Ross has introduced improvements to the Enrolment Services professional service model, benefitting all students, and has worked to provide opportunities to increase the participation of under-represented student populations. This includes establishing a tuition waiver program, admission policy and support services for former youth in government care, and developing improved recruitment strategies and financial assistance for Aboriginal students and domestic students with significant financial need.

As the university embarks on the transformation of our Human Resources, Finance and Student Administration systems – united under the Integrated Renewal Program – Dr. Ross has taken on the role of Lead Program Sponsor. Given this significant additional responsibility, a Deputy Registrar for the Vancouver campus will be appointed to guide the operations of Enrolment Services, under the mentorship and supervision of Dr. Ross.

Dr. Ross’ leadership also extends beyond UBC: she has established collaborations with school districts and other post-secondary institutions to improve student transitions to UBC; and she co-chairs the EducationPlannerBC Steering Committee, which is developing a common application process for students in the province.

We are sure that the next few years will see Enrolment Services build on its strengths under Dr. Ross’ leadership, and we look forward to working with her in her second term.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the President’s Advisory Committee and all who participated in the consultation during the process for consideration of the extension of Dr. Ross’ appointment.
