A message from Andrew Szeri, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver
We are pleased to announce that the Board of Governors, on the recommendation of Santa Ono, has approved the extension of appointment of Professor Rickey Yada as Dean of the Faculty of Land and Food Systems for a second five-year term.
Under Dr. Yada’s leadership over the past five years, the Faculty developed its 2016-2020 strategic plan focusing on excellence through increasing research intensity, enhancing student-centered learning and engagement, leveraging opportunities for partnerships, recognizing excellence in the Faculty, and building a stronger sense of community. This strategic plan, called the Action Plan, has helped the Faculty to renew its mission and goals, aligning them with the university’s strategic plan.
Dr. Yada’s collaborative leadership extends well beyond UBC where he has established excellent relationships with industry and government.
I am confident that, through Dr. Yada’s leadership, the Faculty will continue to build on its strengths to address critical global issues around food security; sustainable agriculture and the environment; food, nutrition and health; and food safety and quality. I look forward to working with Dr. Yada in his second term.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the President’s Advisory Committee and all who participated in the consultation during the process for consideration of the extension of Dr. Yada’s appointment.
