Prof. Ian Mitchell appointed head of the Department of Computer Science

Appointment Date

Professor Ian Mitchell has been appointed head of the UBC Department of Computer Science on Jan. 1, 2021, for a five-year term.

Prior to stepping into the role as head, Prof. Mitchell served as associate head (undergraduate), where he coordinated efforts to meet increasing demand among students for training in computational theory, practice and science. He completed a BASc in engineering physics and an MSc in computer science at UBC, and then a PhD in engineering at Stanford University. He spent a year as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California at Berkeley before returning to UBC as a faculty member in 2003.
