Dr. Zu-hua Gao has been appointed as Head of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, effective November 1, 2021. In this role, Dr. Gao will provide strategic leadership to the Department by creating and advancing a strategic plan that aligns with the Faculty's strategic plan Building the Future, and continue to promote excellence in teaching, research and service.
Dr. Gao joins UBC from McGill University, where he serves as Chair and Chief of the Department of Pathology. He is also currently President of the Canadian Chairs of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He received his medical degree from Qingdao Medical College, master's degree from Harbin Medical University, and PhD degree from Peking Union Medical College. He obtained his post-doctoral fellowship training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, pathology residency training at Dalhousie University, and subspecialty pathology fellowship at the University of Chicago.
