As one of six Killam institutions, UBC offers yearly awards from the Killam Endowment Fund to faculty and teaching assistants who demonstrate excellence in teaching.

The Killam Teaching Prize is adjudicated within each Faculty at the UBC Vancouver campus, and within the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic at the UBC Okanagan campus. Contact the appropriate UBC Vancouver Dean's Office or the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic, UBC Okanagan for nomination procedures and internal deadlines.
Deadline for the UBC Vancouver Deans and UBC Okanagan to submit the 2021-22 recipients’ names and citations to the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic, UBC Vancouver (via e-mail to email@example.com) is March 11, 2022. Citations must be no longer than 100 words.
In recognition of the valuable role that Teaching Assistants play in our programs, UBC annually honours 16 GTAs with the Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Award. Successful candidates will have met criteria that demonstrate a high level of respect for the candidate from undergraduate students and supervisors. The UBC Killam GTA Award adjudication takes place within Faculties.

External Teaching Awards

The 3M National Teaching Fellowship recognizes exceptional contributions to teaching and learning at Canadian universities. The community of 3M National Teaching Fellows embodies the highest ideals of teaching excellence and scholarship with a commitment to encourage and support the educational experience of every learner.
The nomination process for 2022 has commenced in September 2021. Recognizing that UBC has many faculty members who are most worthy of this prestigious recognition, the Provost Office strongly encourages the nomination of colleagues from Faculties and Schools. All nominees or nominating parties are asked to consult Dr. Simon Bates, who will offer advice on the process and the nomination package, and can assist with preparation of the support letter for the Provost & VP Academic’s signature. Future 3M nominees and nominators are encouraged to visit the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology’s website, for information on 1-1 consultations, sample dossiers and application advice from recent UBC 3M National Teaching Fellows.
Updated Deadline: Nomination packages should be sent to the Office of the Provost and VP Academic by Friday, December 10, 2021.Following sign-off by the Provost, the package will be returned to the Faculty who must then submit it directly to the competition.
The Award for Distinguished Contributions to Education and Training in Psychology in Canada is presented to CPA Members or Fellows who have made a significant contribution to these areas.
The Award of Excellence in Education recognizes nurses for their outstanding contributions to the profession and demonstrating excellence in relation to the CRNBC Professional Standards for Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners.
The Program Director of the Year Award is given annually to a program director who has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing residency education as evidenced by innovation and impact beyond his/her program.
